Jennifer’s Blog I want to first let you know it is lease renewal time. This is going to be a long blog and I hope you read it and I do not need snarky responses. You all know I’m truthfully honest to the point it’s painful for all of us! This has been a really difficult process for me. My heart tells me one thing and my business brain tells me something else and another part of my brain flips flops every day between sides of the argument. Good news for you all my heart won out over my head and I am signing a new two year lease! However, I NEED YOU to do two things for me. One be my marketing team. Go out and tell everyone about us. Tell them now that the box stores are out to come to us for fabric. Tell them that you will get personalized classes and meet a lot of great new people. Get them to join our Quilting madness if they are not quilters. Secondly, I need you to come in to the store or shop online. I’ll be truthful there are days Kathy and/or Jen2 never see a soul or the few they see don’t buy! I can’t have that! The last four years have been horrible. I want to hear no panic talk about tariffs. Prices go up. The last time was during a previous administration that will remain nameless in this blog. The prices of cotton skyrocketed and guess what they never came down and you continued to buy. Without you the customers, we won’t make it through this lease. When we moved from the original location we downsized 2/3 of the square footage. For some reason we also lost 2/3 of you the customers. Why? If you are one of those who didn’t follow us, tell me why. Maybe I can fix something and make it better. Just try not to make me cry. I’m at the age that I do that very easily…...lol Second, I want to give you an example why Quilters Depot is a great store. We might not be the biggest, We may not have a lot of classes, but we give personalized attention(to a point) Here is my example. Right now I’m at the end of a 101 session. One student is taking the class for the second time since her first attempt wasn’t the best. I’m not saying that to be mean. The student admits it. So she decided to take the class again and I gave her step by step and personalized attention. The second student had hip surgery in the middle of her session. She’s now back finishing up. No additional cost. She got how many weeks she missed and probably one or two more. If either needs more the most they will pay is a sit n sew. Is this why I need money. YES probably……..lol, but you know what if you went anywhere else and didn’t finish your class or got lost during the class it would be “tough” you should have kept up.(Been there done that at a few stores that will remain nameless). Everyone learns differently. Everyone has a reason or two why sometimes quilting can be hard. I want all of those people to love quilting as much as the rest of us. Something special you need ordered talk to us. There’s a good chance we will get it in for you. Finally, yes fabric prices will be going up on new items. Not all of them. I work very hard to find you deals. That being said a few things will be going up. Quilting classes will be higher when you see them. As of July 1st Yarn time will be going up to $10 as will any Kathy’s Korners or open sews. If you are making a girl’s dress the fee will be $5 but you will still get the 10% off the fabrics. I hope you all understand it had to be done. Remember the one with the most stash wins! Jenn Classes/Events: Charity Project 2025—Dress A Girl Around the World In 2025 we are continuing our charitable effort with Dress A Girl Around the World (Hope 4 Women International non-profit). This organization provides dresses to girls around the world suffering from poverty, disease, and low self-worth. Staff and Customers make dresses to support this organization. We will supply the instructions and assistance in making these simple dresses to make a girl feel special and loved. They can be worked on at our Open Sews (50% fee waived) or at home. A 10% discount on fabric purchased specifically for these dresses. Kathy's Korner 2025 We are going to do things a little differently in 2025. Instead of having a specific monthly project, we will have an Open Sew for $10.00 per session. You can come in and work on a project of your choice or complete an unfinished project. Kathy will be there to help you (to the best of her ability) if needed. Occasionally, there will be a featured project during the month which will be priced accordingly. It is helpful to call in advance so that we know you are coming. Please pay attention to the dates that are listed below and on the calendar. Start your own group of ladies on a certain day that is listed and join the fun! Kathy’s Korner Open Sews are replacing/enhancing our sit n sews! Just a small change! If you call and can not get in on the Wednesday please call and make arrangements to come in during our other open times! Open Sews in July are every Weds with Kathy’s Korner and a bunch of bonus Tuesdays and Thursdays. Check the attached calendar! If you don’t’ see a day or time call and see if there is room for you to come in! All times are 10:30 to 5
Yarn Time! This month we will be having 5 sessions of Yarn Time We will be charging $10.00 a session whether you are doing the project of the month or just your own stuff. If you come to all you get the final session free! As always our Yarn times are hosted by Emily Klaczak. Spread the word that it’s a great time to come in and work on your knitting and crochet and socialize with like mind artists! If you know anyone ho wants to learn have them come talk to Emily during one of these times and see what can be set up for lessons! All times are from Noon to 3pm unless specified in this section. For specific dates please look at the calendar! July Yarn Time — Christmas in July If you’re a crafter, it’s never too early to start your Christmas projects. We’re making a super-easy crochet Christmas tree with a granny square, and a knitted poinsettia. They’re great for Christmas ornaments, package decorations, and if you make several, you can trim a wreath, too. Supplies: Christmas Tree — about 1 oz. green yarn, medium weight, or small amounts of red, white and green medium weight yarn; size H crochet hook, 12” yarn or ribbon for hanging, optional: star for tree topper. Poinsettia — about 1 oz. red and green medium weight yarn; size 8 knitting needles; gold beads or buttons for center; 12” yarn or ribbon for hanging. -Jenn
