Quilters Depot It's more than a Quilt Store |
Jennifer’s Blog First, let’s do the stuff you need to know. Check out the calendar for when Kathy’s Korners are scheduled and when and what the project is for Yarn Time! Emily has a really cute doggy sweater for the knittier this month you will all want to make! The next 101 starts on February 1st, however it is filled. If interested call the store and get put on the list. I’m not sure when the next one will start but we will call you or watch the newsletter for upcoming dates! I plan to have a 201 and then back to 101. So stay tuned! Next, let me tell you a story. It’s based on reality. Once upon a time there was a girl in her 30’s who wanted to be an entrenpreneur. So her and her mother started a quilt store. The dream was to make enough money to just be a quilt store owner. So they opened a quilt store in a spacious store where they wanted everyone to want to come to it and buy! They sold long arms. They sold sewing machines. It was hard but it was a fun place. Fast forward a decade. Pandemic hit. Economy plummeted even more and has never returned. Owners downsize 2/3 to a smaller store and lost 2/3 of their customers and sales. Where did they go? Did a wicked witch or warlock put a spell on them so they didn’t shop anymore? Who knows. If I knew the answer I wouldn’t be writing a blog like this. First thank you to those of you who do support us! I wouldn’t have made it as long as I have without you, but I NEED YOU MY CUSTOMERS! I need you to come in. I need you to buy online or in person! I need you take classes when they are offered. I need you to basically save the fairy tale because it doesn’t feel like a fairy tale any longer. Am I begging? Yes, I am. Please help me keep my dream of being an entrenpreneur alive. This always works in the hallmark movies so I’m trying it in reality. I thought hard about writing this story. It could backfire (small business aren’t supposed to talk about this stuff) but truthfully if it does I know what I will have to do and I don’t want to. On the positive side (I’m not all a downer) please meet the newest man in my life. Romeo. My new baby is seeing impaired so it’s taking a while to learn how to make his life the very best he can be. He can see far away and up close his depth perception is off so he topples off of things a lot. He was born on May 16th 2023 so he’s still a youngster. I still miss his brother Onyx immensely but this little guy is a character and is fitting in well. The pics are below! Excuse the last one. He has no shame! If you have made it this far, thanks and please continue to see when Kathy’s Korners are and when yarn times are! Remember the one with the most stash wins! Jenn
Classes/Events: Charity Project 2025—Dress A Girl Around the World In 2025 we are continuing our charitable effort with Dress A Girl Around the World (Hope 4 Women International non-profit). This organization provides dresses to girls around the world suffering from poverty, disease, and low self-worth. Staff and Customers make dresses to support this organization. We will supply the instructions and assistance in making these simple dresses to make a girl feel special and loved. They can be worked on at our Open Sews ($5 fee waived) or at home. A 10% discount on fabric purchased specifically for these dresses.
Kathy's Korner 2025 We are going to do things a little differently in 2025. Instead of having a specific monthly project, we will have an Open Sew for $5.00 per session. You can come in and work on a project of your choice or complete an unfinished project. Kathy will be there to help you (to the best of her ability) if needed. Occasionally, there will be a featured project during the month which will be priced accordingly. It is helpful to call in advance so that we know you are coming. Please pay attention to the dates that are listed below and on the calendar. We may adjust dates as needed but for January we are loaded with dates for you to sew! Start your own group of ladies on a certain day that is listed and join the fun! Kathy’s Korner Open Sews are replacing/enhancing our sit n sews! Just a small change! Open Sew /February: Wednesdays from 10:30 to 5 Tuesday, February 11th and 25 from 10:30 to 5
Yarn Time! This month we will be having 5 sessions of Yarn Time We will be charging $5.00 a session whether you are doing the project of the month or just your own stuff. If you have a dog, they probably need a sweater, especially these last few weeks! This month we’ll be knitting a dog sweater with a Fair Isle (two color) design. The pattern is scaled for a smaller dog — 8 to 25 lbs. — but if your dog is bigger, we can change it to fit them. If you’ve never tried Fair Isle knitting, this will be a nice introduction to the technique. This is Emily’s puppy!
